Chinmaya Mission Niagara Falls (Canada) became an official Chinmaya Mission chapter in 1999, but Mission devotees in the region had been serving the Niagara region since the late 1980s, offering weekly Vedanta classes from home to home.
Weekly Chinmaya Bala Vihar, Yuva Kendra, and adult Study Group classes continued in schools for the next few years. In 2006, the committee felt it was time to have their own home. With blessings and a puja performed by Swami Shantananda, Chinmaya Mission Niagara moved into its own center in July of 2007. Pujya Guruji named the center "Chinmaya Dhara."
Just as there was a demand for a center in the Niagara region, so too was there a demand for a Mission acharya. The community was indeed blessed with an acharya in 2008. Born and raised in the city of Niagara Falls, Acharya Vivek Gupta returned after completing the Mission's two-year residential Vedanta course in Mumbai, India, under the tutelage of Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda.
Today, all Chinmaya Mission classes are being conducted in the “Chinmaya Dhara” ashram, and are growing in quality and quantity. This expansion has quickened since the official inauguration of “Chinmaya Dhara” by Pujya Guruji in July of 2009.
Future plans include the installation of the idols of Shri Radha-Krishna in the presence of Pujya Guruji in August 2010, and classroom and dining hall renovations.
